Colin Powell Tops Favorability Charts
Posted by:
(image: msnbc)
As we await the new Rasmussen numbers on presidential standings due out tomorrow, the poll conducted a survey of various politicians and where they stand regarding favorable ratings. Perhaps if the Republican presidential nominee of 2008 gets desperate next year, they might look to the man on top of this chart for help. Despite his liberal views on many issues, a ticket featuring Powell’s name along side of it would be hard to beat.
Colin Powell: 77% (fav) 20% (unfav)
Bill Clinton: 55% (fav) 43% (unfav)
John McCain: 48% (fav) 45% (unfav)
Hillary Clinton: 48% (fav) 49% (unfav)
Mitt Romney: 36% (fav) 42% (unfav)
Tom Tancredo: 15% (fav) 36% (unfav)
John Kyl: 14% (fav) 36% (unfav)

Impossible now that he’s working for Obama’s campaign.

Hehe… Knew you’d chime in quick on Powell.
From what I hear, Powell simply “talks” to anyone interested in talking to him on foreign policy. This was his explanation at least on this week’s Meet The Press appearance. I don’t believe that he is a part of anyone’s campaign.
That being said, notice the word desperate in my column. We know our short list, as we’ve discussed it before. But I was speaking to the effect of “what if”. What if, depending on Bush’s actions in the near future, a Thompson is faced with massive poll deficits next summer.
You have to ask yourself why the man (Powell) is starting to put himself out there again. A return to potential politics as a running mate would not be out of the question at all.

And I’ve got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn. Senior party figures don’t advise the opposition.

WOW I am amazed by Bill Clinton, he really is a great political animal. How he can get away so easily? Increbible!

I think part of that has to do with time frame Feathers. Lets face it… half the country is Democrat, and half (more if you count conservatives) longs for the days of that type of presidency. Very vanilla in regards to foreign policy etc. I think many in this country attribute his policies to the economic boom of the 90s. I tend to say it was more of a result of him “not screwing it up” than anything he did specifically. But, in comparison to Bush, to which any rational political follower can smell amateur a mile away, Clinton simply looks better. Time will pass and I believe Clinton will be remembered partially for his scandals, partially for his economic record, and partially as a man that really didn’t do much. Again… He didn’t mess it up… but he isn’t a great man in the standard of Reagan, Roosevelt, or the other great presidents.

Take away the Republican 1994 congressional victory and his economic record would look like a nightmare. He was held in check throughout the later 90s. We tend to forget just how socialist and backward those first two years were.
