Veep Palin?

It’s not often that you see a draft movement for a vice presidential candidate. I’m thinking about it and yet drawing a blank on any such effort in the past. At least of course, one that occurred before the presidential candidates had been nominated.

So a site we were referred to earlier might be unique in its call for Alaska’s Republican governor, Sarah Palin, to get the nod. Despite the enduring and widespread unpopularity of most elected leaders (especially Republicans), Palin has manged to achieve another unique distinction. She’s the most popular political figure in her state’s history. That’s in ever. Currently, she’s polling a stunning 83% approval rating and it shows little sign of falling any time soon. That’s enough to get anyone’s attention.

While it’s true that hardy and tough Alaska, is about as Republican as Vermont is Democrat, such ratings numbers are still rather extraordinary in an age of political disillusionment. PP subscriber and Giuliani supporter “Palin for VP” (too subtle?) has had a blog running since February with the intent of spreading the word on Sarah. He’s never met Palin, he hasn’t been following her life for years, heck, he’s never even been to Alaska. But does make a fine case for our good lady of the white north.

Palin for VP, on why it’s not too early:

[T]he race for Vice-President started long before this blog came into existence. Many of the “second-tier candidates for President” are actually angling for the No. 2 spot on the ticket (whether they’re doing it purposefully or not).
(Palin for VP)

True.

His five points on why she’d make the best Veep:

1) A energetic, young, fresh face who will energize the electorate
2) Not connected to the current administration
3) Pro-Life
4) Pro-Gun
5) A woman or minority to counter Hillary or Obama and put to rest the idea that America only elects white males.
(Palin for VP)

If number 1 means she’s got sex appeal, I agree. Numbers 2 through 4 are also definitely good. Number 5 leaves me as cold as a swim in the Chukchi Sea. There’s nothing worse than politics as affirmative action. But 4 out of 5 is pretty fair really. You’ll note that these items are much more than can be said about Palin for VP’s presidential candidate, Rudy. That’s always a good thing.
