BlogPI’s William Beutler takes an interesting look at the Romney YouTube campaign effort.

To recap, Romney was the first presidential candidate to embrace YouTube’s invitation for their 2008 YouChoose election spotlight feature. The effort features a short clip of Romney asking what the problems of the world are and invites webcam recorded responses. William actually watched all 54 of those responses. This is a commendable effort, as I lost interest about a third of the way into the first. If you haven’t an RSDM membership card, his summary of the responder perspectives is all you really need:

The single greatest challenge facing America today is Iraq, health care, education, fossil fuels, illegal immigration, corporations and Don Imus.
(BlogPI)

If so, Mr. Romney is badly off base in his message focus and development.

But once again this reminds us of the odd thing about modern political marketing: It seems that despite the larger campaigns more extensive budgets in this area, innovative new media strategies have become the hallmark of also-ran campaigns in the 21st century, starting with Howard Dean in 2004.

One side note: It might be a little unfair of Mr. Beutler to label well known Republican political consultant and blogger David All (with whom we had a brief debate earlier this month), as merely a “small business owner.”
