The Loyalty of Treachery

It’s becoming a signature of the firmer party control the DNC exercises over its elected officials: Democrats who have demonstrated enormous incompetence in their jobs and are unlikely to be reelected, are forced out by the party from seeking reelection, in favor of fresh, slightly more favorable candidates. In the latest episode from this sordid practice, universally detested governor Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has been officially forced out of reelection, in order to be replaced on the Democrat ticket by popular former senator John Breaux.

Blanco swears there was no coordination with the Breaux campaign, but obviously that’s nonsense as the Breaux for Governor website went active shortly before word hit of Blanco’s imminent departure. The only reason for this move, is that Republican challenger Bobby Jindal, was crushing Blanco in the polls 59% to 35% and Breaux is thought to be capable of doing better by the Party.

For a party to be able to exert this kind of control over elected leaders, is nothing short of phenomenal. If the RNC tried this with a sitting Republican governor they’d be shown the door. But Democrats, for whatever reason, are extraordinarily responsive to such orders from Howard Dean’s central committee. Must be nice.
